Lexicon: Fountain screenplay files
Fountain is a way of writing a screenplay in plain text so that the layout can be rebuilt from simple marks: scene headings begin INT or EXT, character names are in capitals, dialogue follows the name. Its changelog dates version 1.1 to March 2014. From 2 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Because a Fountain file is plain text, any tool that takes pasted text can take its words. Only a tool that names the format promises to read the marks as screenplay structure; one tool on the register does.
A writer working in a screenplay app can usually export Fountain alongside PDF.

3What happens after the text goes in
After the intake question in “Fountain”, SceneMixer describes what it does with the text:
The spoken lines and the end card follow your interface language across fifteen dialogue languages, with the cast and setting adapted to that market. The end card falls back to a language it can typeset when a script needs shaping or right-to-left layout.

SceneMixer turns a novel into a watchable short-drama series in one pipeline: upload the novel (Chinese or English) → AI extracts characters, scenes, and an episode-by-episode structure → generates consistent character and scene art → writes storyboard scripts → renders video segment by segment (16:9 by default, 9:16 in one setting) → composites full episodes.
