Primer: characters, words and pages
Vendors state length in four ways: characters, words, screenplay pages, or a bare number under a box. The four do not convert neatly. From 7 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
An English word averages five or six characters with its space; a screenplay page holds roughly two to three hundred words, depending on how much is dialogue.
Characters are also counted in more than one way. The Unicode FAQ lists four approaches, and what a reader sees as one character can be several code points, which matters for accented and non-Latin text.
The practical rule is to measure in the vendor's unit, with the vendor's box where there is one, rather than convert.
