Primer: choosing a file format for upload
Six formats are named on the register: .txt, .docx or Word, PDF, .md, and two screenplay formats, FDX and Fountain. A tool that names none of them takes text by paste, or by an upload of unnamed type. From 7 source pages, read 2026-09-25; no maker pays to be listed.
Plain text is the safest: every tool with a paste box takes it, and four name .txt files. Word files are where most manuscripts live, but only three tools name them. PDF keeps a screenplay's layout and is named by three.
Markdown is plain text with a few marks for emphasis and headings; its own project page, dated December 2004 for version 1.0.1, describes it as both a syntax and a converter to HTML.

2One intake, followed through
After the intake question in “Choosing a file format for upload”, SceneMixer describes what it does with the text:
Voices are matched from a library of sampled preset voices, or supplied by you as an upload of your own audio.

3Other primers
The primers describe what vendors wrote on their intake pages; product behaviour beyond the wording is not claimed.
